From unmanaged edge to planted living system
A rough, underused patch was redesigned into a more diverse and usable foodscape with layered planting, shade, habitat, and productive growing space.
Permaculture Consulting & Food Forest Design
We design living food forests and edible landscapes for farms of 50+ acres — systems that produce abundance, build soil, and regenerate ecosystems over decades.
"Good land design turns maintenance into momentum — water, soil, plants, animals, and people working as one system."
Marion designs practical food forests, edible landscapes, and regenerative farm systems that are built to work in real conditions — not just look good on paper. Her approach combines permaculture design, plant selection, soil building, water planning, and phased implementation so each part of the land supports the next.
From gardens and homesteads to larger working properties, Marion helps clients understand what their land can become, then builds a clear path toward a landscape that is productive, resilient, beautiful, and easier to manage over time.
What we offer
01
Full seven-layer canopy mapping, species selection for your climate zone, and phased planting schedules for farms 50–5,000 acres.
02
Swales, ponds, keyline plowing, and catchment design that builds soil moisture and eliminates irrigation dependency over time.
03
Compost systems, cover cropping strategy, mycorrhizal inoculation programs, and long-term organic matter building plans.
04
Pollinator corridors, beneficial insect habitat, wildlife integration, and hedgerow systems that make your farm an ecosystem.
05
Topographic survey, soil testing, micro-climate identification, and sector analysis — the foundation for all good permaculture design.
06
On-farm visits, team training, year-one planting oversight, and 3-year check-ins to ensure your system establishes successfully.
The 7 Layers of a Food Forest
Our process
We spend time on your farm before drawing anything — observing water flows, sunlight, soil, wind, and existing ecology.
Every zone of your farm is mapped against energies flowing through it — sun arcs, prevailing winds, frost pockets, natural access routes.
We design guilds — companion planting groups — that work together, support each other, and produce across all seven forest layers.
Large farms are transformed in strategic phases over 3–10 years, building complexity and productivity with each stage.
Living systems evolve. We return annually to refine the design based on what the land tells us, ensuring long-term success.
Case studies
Before and after examples from real food forest, garden restoration, and farm design work.
Food forest conversion · Site 01
A rough, underused patch was redesigned into a more diverse and usable foodscape with layered planting, shade, habitat, and productive growing space.
Garden foodscape · Site 02
A sparse garden space was built into a fuller, more diverse foodscape with flowers, herbs, shrubs, and edible planting woven around the existing path.
Orchard conversion · Site 03
An exposed grass field was converted into a productive orchard and early-stage food forest, adding tree structure, shelter, habitat, and seasonal harvest potential.
About Marion
Marion is a permaculture designer and foodscaping consultant focused on turning farms, gardens, and working landscapes into productive living ecosystems.
A longtime student of Cathe Fish and the drylands permaculture tradition, Marion brings a practical, field-tested approach to edible landscapes, food forests, soil repair, water-wise planning, and whole-site ecological design.
Marion Foodscaping is not a one-person operation. Projects are supported by a wider team of growers, designers, soil builders, plant specialists, educators, and implementation partners who are brought in based on the needs of the land.
The team works with experienced permaculture educators and practitioners, including Cathe Fish, while keeping the focus on Marion’s applied design work: practical systems that feed people, build soil, support biodiversity, and become stronger with time.
